Maison Martin Margiela Paris SS13

Maison Martin Margiela.
"Often referred to as iconoclast, avant-garde and experimental, the Maison expresses its creativity through recycling, transformation and reinterpretation - like an emotion, a unique and timeless proposal defying all laws and rules."

When I saw this collection, I was completely blown away. I love everything about it -- the colours, the patterns, the textures, the designs. At this moment in time if someone were to ask me..."If you were given a blank cheque to go shopping, where is the first place you would go and what would you buy?"
I would respond simply with, "Maison Martin Margiela, and everything."

The following photos were shot backstage at Maison Martin Margiela's SS13 Artisanal's Haute Couture fashion show. Each amazing photo was captured by Ă‰douard Caupeil, and you can see more behind the scenes photos here.

Tribal from Trendland

My new newsletter addiction: Trendland

I'm such a sucker for subscribing to random newsletters, and instead of unsubscribing, deleting them has just become part of my daily routine. In all honestly Trendland is the only one I've been frequenting since a friend passed the site along to me.

I'm all about discovering the "new" and this source delivers content from all over the world in these fantastic areas:

Everything I've read about thus far are probably things I wouldn't have discovered on my own. This series of photos particularly caught my attention with the bold colours and interesting use of props.

The photos were taken for WAD Magazine No. 53 by Swiss photographer Namsa Leuba, capturing the depiction of African identity through Western eyes, with a western and tribal-influenced wardrobe, and stunning palm leaves and flowers. Her work has also been featured in the publications Numero and -- my absolute favourite -- i-D magazine.

Golden Globes 2013

You'd be surprised by the amount of TV I watch that I actually usually skip any award shows. Yes, even the Golden Globes. But I do look forward to catching a glimpse of the Red Carpet Dresses, and surfing the net the next day to find my fav looks.

If I had to summarize my over all loves I would say long sleeved, lace, beads, sheer, blues, and blacks were all the rage.

Here are my favourite dresses seen on the Red Carpet:

Nicole Richie - Naeem Khan

Julianna Merguiles - Emilio Pucci

Sienna Miller - Erdem

Kate Hudson - Alexander McQueen

Julianne Moore - Tom Ford

Rachel Weisz - Louis Vuitton

Helen Mirren - Badgley Mischka

Nicole Kidman - Alexander McQueen

Kerry Washington - Miu Miu

Jessica Chastain - Calvin Klein

Impossible Shoes

"Imagination is another name for absolute power." - Sophie Morgan
We've made it to 2013. Some say it's the beginning of a new era. An era where people will begin to work together to achieve the unknown, be kind, and appreciate the true beauty of this world without taking any of it for granted, or throwing people under the bus to get to the top.

Well we're all still human so I'm sure it'll take some time, but that all sounds pretty great to me. At least the world didn't come to an end like some thought, and I'm glad I didn't invest $50,000 in a bomb shelter and canned foods like others.

But will all that said, I've been taking my own steps to try out new things, see what the world has to offer, as well as trying to take the time to appreciate the beauty of the complex and simple things that are just under my fingertips. People don't stop to smell the roses quite enough.

This semester I'm taking a class in documentary making to tap into a different creative outlet, and to contribute to capturing beauty and reality that may otherwise go unnoticed or be forgotten. I believe that it's important to live your life and enjoy those moments where a memory is often better remembered or suited, over capturing that moment in a photograph or video. But I also believe that if something is not documented in the form of a photograph, video, or compilation of words, then those things never happened and will be forgotten in time -- even something as simple as an outfit someone wears, or an event of some sort. These things will eventually be deemed non-existant, and these things are an important part of development.

I was doing some research into more creative types of documenting, and I came across this incredible short film that pushes the boundaries of perception and stereotypes of body representation in a more poetic form. See for yourself:
